The most common causes of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in India are diabetes and hypertension, accounting for up to 60% of cases. The prevalence of CKD among Indians living in India and U.S. cities is similar. Yet, those with CKD living in Indian cities have more severe kidney disease and are much less likely to manage risk factors. This makes them more likely to experience kidney failure, the last stage of chronic kidney disease.

Early detection and early treatment can improve outcomes and turn the tide on kidney disease. Some of the ways to achieve this include providing education regarding diet and healthy lifestyles, improved maternal care, and community-level screening for noncommunicable diseases, like diabetes and hypertension, at the primary healthcare level. In general, people should be made more aware of chronic kidney disease and how to prevent and treat it.

Good public health initiatives are extremely important for preventing CKD and delaying progression by encouraging people to get timely interventions. To be successful, government and nongovernmental organizations, healthcare organizations, and community members need to be able to unite and work together. Prevention and early detection of CKD also requires the active involvement of physicians at all levels.

Care.Wallet can be a game-changing solution for managing chronic diseases, like CKD. Care.Cards allow access to appropriate information and give patients, providers, family members, and others can use Care.Cards to share and track medical conditions and take immediate action to prevent worsening of health. With the How Are You Feeling Today (HAYFT) Care.Card, caregivers, family members, and others can track health conditions remotely and give patients recommendations based on their conditions. And, through, Care Networks, organizations, including government agencies, can launch public health initiatives and connect people with the services they need. Care Network members can use their Care.Wallet to communicate and synchronize data, ensuring that records are instantaneously updated, making it easier and simpler to get timely treatment.

With this new approach, people can avoid the suffering that comes with chronic kidney disease, helping them live longer, healthier lives.
