Venereal diseases, more commonly known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), are bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections most commonly transmitted by unprotected sex. Although it must be noted that these diseases may also be spread by other forms of skin to skin contact of the genital area and any exchange of bodily fluids, including contact with blood. Some of the more well-known venereal diseases include bacterial infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis, viral infections like genital herpes, HPV, Hepatitis B, and HIV, and finally parasites that spread pubic lice and trichomoniasis. Many of these infections can also be asymptomatic in a person causing an infection to be transmitted unknowingly.

Venereal diseases occur everywhere around the world, however there are a few that are more common in countries that are less industrialized, including Venezuela. This is also particularly due to many of these countries suffering from illegal and unregulated sexual tourism. Throw in a lacking healthcare system and the stigma many still have towards venereal diseases; lack of treatment often leads to more spread. In 2017 Venezuela reported 120,000 confirmed cases of HIV and in 1994 reported that 4% of sex workers (UNAIDS 2004) at the time had the disease. There are no demographical differences when it comes to being affected by a venereal disease, however it is important to note that these infections can be passed on to infants in the case of contracting one during pregnancy.

Digital health solutions like Care.Wallet can be easily configured to help a patient manage their venereal disease and treatments effectively, but more importantly it gives them greater safety and privacy. Patients can keep track of their symptoms and note to their doctor what may be causing them, what aggravates their symptoms, and also easily receive the care and knowledge they need. If experiencing unexpected symptoms, a patient can book an appointment with a few clicks directly in the App. If a patient needs a ride to the facility, Care.Wallet has got them covered with a medical transportation solution embedded. If it’s not possible to have an in-office visit, Care.Wallet allows for booking online appointments via Global Telehealth Exchange.

A big part of treating venereal disease is prevention. Care.Wallet can help with this as well. On Care.Wallet you have access not just to Care Networks, which may connect you with help specific to your situation. Being a hub for your digital healthcare, there may even be more educational focused networks that can help you navigate dealing with venereal diseases.

Care.Wallet can also be a useful tool for improving your quality of life, and other patient-related outcomes during long term treatment care. With Care.Wallet the patient doesn’t have to worry about preparing for the appointment, as all their previous medical records are securely stored in their Care.Wallet and can be shared with all members of their care team in real-time. On top of that, Care.Wallet allows for symptom recording and management. Armed with all the necessary information, medical professionals can better evaluate the health condition of the patient and diagnose the problem. Prescriptions and referrals can be easily managed within the App as well. Care.Wallet has a comprehensive feedback function, called “How Are You Feeling Today” (HAYFT) Cards, that allows the patient to stay in touch with their care provider and report any changes to their health condition. With this, their physicians can easily provide advice quickly. In addition, the Care.Circle functionality provides an opportunity for the patient to have health information exchanged between all care professionals involved in their treatment. Family and friends can be invited to join their Care.Circle, as well to support the patient in their recovery and stay updated about their current health situation.

Care.Wallet is a powerful health management tool designed to offer a new improved standard of care and will improve the way healthcare works by putting patients in control of their health management. If you enjoyed this article, do take a look at our previous article Prostate Cancer in Australia.
